Autumn is a second spring where every leaf is a flower.
There is nothing better than raking up a giant pile of leaves and diving right in. The colors, the scent, and the rustle evokes childhood memories of spiced cider, hayrides, carving pumpkins, and the biggie of fall, Halloween trick-or-treating. Knitters' favorite season is autumn because we finally have the excuse of cooler weather dig out our wonderful hand-knitted treasures. We also step up our knitting activity as the yarn is so warm and comforting to work with on these cool days.
Whip up one or a pile of these fun leaves to dress up your seasonal wardrobe. Dig into your scrap pile for bits and pieces of autumn colors to knit up one in every color. Learn how to felt your leaves to dress up your fall wardrobe.
- Yarn: Any yarn will do that evokes the spirit of the season. I used Berroco Jasper in color 3843–Carnelian
- Needles: Use needles that are suitable for the yarn weight. I used a size #9.
- Tapestry needle to weave in the ends
bo: bind off
m1: make one
psso: pass slipped stitch over
ssk: slip slip knit
ssp: slip slip purl
Cast on 3 sts.
Make an I-cord 1 inch long.
Row 1: p1, k1, p1.
Row 2: k1, m1, p1, m1, k1 – 5 sts.
Row 3: p2, k1, p2.
Row 4: [k1, m1] 2x, p1, [m1, k1] 2x – 9 sts.
Row 5: p4, k1, p4.
Row 6: [k2, m1] 2x. p1, [m1, k2] 2x – 13 sts.
Row 7: p6, k1, p6.
Row 8: bo 2 sts, k3, p1, k 6 – 11 sts.
Row 9: bo 2 sts pw, p3, k1, p4 – 9sts.
Row 10: k4, p1, k4.
Row 11: p4, k1, p4.
Rows 12–23: repeat rows 6–11 two times.
Row 24: ssk, k2, p1, k2, k2tog – 7 sts.
Row 25: p2tog, p1, k1, p1, ssp – 5 sts.
Row 26: ssk, p1, k2tog – 3 sts.
Row 27: s1 pw, p2tog, psso – 1 st.
Weave in the ends.
