Everyone has them: baskets or bags filled with half-finished projects. Sometimes an intricate project loses its luster and you put it aside for something quick and simple, or you reach a point where you don’t quite understand the instructions, get frustrated, and move on. For all those UFOs that need a little extra kick of motivation, try starting or joining a Crochet Along.

Crochet Alongs generally start as a post on a forum by someone who wants to take on a new project. Other members reply with their desire to join, and each person posts their progress as they go. It’s fun to see how everyone makes their own creation from the same pattern, and noting their progress will encourage you to hang in there and keep stitching. Generally there are no deadlines (and no pressure!), but knowing other people else will see and appreciate your work just might be the push you need. Plus, if the pattern gets confusing you can ask someone how they are working through it. Crochet Alongs are also a great way to discover new patterns that you might not have tried on your own, plus make some new crafty friends.

To get started, see what’s already posted on Craftster, or try the Crochetville forums. And if there’s not a project that strikes your fancy, remember that you can always start your own.
