Learn how to make all 20 ghoulish goodies to serve during your Halloween party by purchasing your copy of Tricky Treats.

Excerpted from Tricky Treats (The Taunton Press, 2015) by Susanna Tee, this simple tutorial will walk you through the process of creating eight owl cupcakes for your next party or for your family to enjoy this fall season.

You will need (makes 8):

• 8 bought or homemade chocolate cupcakes

• 12 ounces (350g) ready-to-use chocolate frosting

• 8 chocolate sandwich cookies

• 3 tablespoons ready-to-use vanilla frosting

• 16 sugar-coated chocolates

How to make:

1. Spread the tops of chocolate cupcakes with chocolate frosting.

2. Carefully twist apart the sandwich cookies. (Putting them in a microwave on high for 10 seconds helps.)

3. Spread ½ teaspoon vanilla frosting on the plain sides of each cookie, leaving a small border.

4. Attach a brown or orange sugar-coated chocolate to the top of the cookies to look like the center of eyes.

5. Attach two cookies on the upper half of the cupcakes to form eyes.

6. Press a yellow or red sugar-coated chocolate, on its side, between the eyes to look like a beak.
