My Trip to the Original Sewing & Quilt Expo in Cleveland, Ohio
May 6th, 2008 in sewingI do try to creep out of my sewing room every once in a while! Recently, I spent a little time at the Original Sewing & Quilt Expo in my hometown of Cleveland, Ohio. In a previous life, I taught with this travelling expo and can't express how much I enjoyed that incredible learning experience. This year, though, it was great to be a participant, see some friends, and enjoy the younger group that seems to have just sprouted up in this thriving garden of learning, shopping, and mingling.
As I said, the expo travels. You can see their eight-city, spring/fall schedule on their Web site as well as the extensive list of classes for whatever you are into: knitting, hand-sewing, quilting, technology-based sewing, etc. If you're a beginner, they also offer many classes to help you get started.
My trip to the expo was made all the more thrilling as one of my all-time favorite vendors was there,Vogue Fabrics. As much as I wanted to empty my bank account and load up on the lush silks and fantastic home décor fabrics, I settled instead on a beautiful, green, houndstooth tweed.
I plan to make a cute coat out of it—after it ages a bit in my sewing room. You can see some of what they have to offer online, but be sure to check out the expo if it comes to a city near you!
