Make this Small Quilt Project and Practice the Basics
comments (0) May 3rd, 2008I know I’ve said it before, but I love all of the large-print fabrics available nowadays. They’re such happy fabrics to have around—whether you make something out of them or not. But I found a great little quilt pattern that’s fun and fast to do, and it’s a perfect project for practicing the basics. The quilt is called Floral Sorbet from Valori Wells’ book, “Simple Start—Stunning Finish.” This book is filled with great little quilts for all skill levels.
It isn't a full-bed quilt, but you can easily make it larger if you want to. The finished size is 49 inches by 64 inches. I chose a monochromatic color scheme in earthy colors from my personal palette—terra cotta, peach, brown, beige with accents of green, blue, and deep pink. And I used a lofty polyester batting that I’ve had sitting around for awhile, but I wouldn’t recommend this batting because it’s thick and hard to get through the machine opening when you sew; however, I do like the end result. It’s very cozy to snuggle up under. But I think a thinner needle-punch cotton batting is much easier to work with—especially if you haven’t done much machine-quilting before.
After you make this project, show off your work to other members!
