Here is my fabric gift-wrapping creation. For more ideas, just
look around your sewing room: you could trim your gift with pretty
ribbons, bits of tulle, or long strips of contrasting fabric.
Use pinking shears to cut up a square piece of fabric large enough
to cover your gift. Place your present right in the center of the
fabric scrap, and simply fold up the fabric sides to cover the gift.

I bought my sister, Ali, three of the collectible stuffed birds that she wanted for her birthday, but when I got home, I discovered I had no wrapping paper. I really couldn't wrap the coolest 10-year-old girl’s birthday present in Christmas paper. That’s when inspiration struck!

Here's my quick-fix wrapping solution:
All you need are some pinking shears, ribbon, and fabric scraps! Just grab some rainy-day scraps of fabric from your stash, and ...

  • Lay the gift in the center of a scrap of fabric, and check the fit. Fold the corners and sides up together, making sure that the fabric covers the gift by at least 2 inches.
  • Cut the fabric into a square. Use pinking shears to create a nice decorative edge.
  • Rewrap the gift with the fabric. Tie it closed securely with a cute ribbon.

Now, Ali will not only have the birds she adores but also have a little play fabric "nest" for each. Recycling fabric by creatively gifting it to others is a great, "green" way to keep down the clutter in your sewing room.
