Transform Your World with Paper
June 12th, 2008 in jewelry making, home decorating, paper craftsMy love affair with paper began 7 years ago when I decided I would make my own wedding invitations and stationery. I’d never really done any kind of crafting beyond the occasional card or quickie apartment décor project, so the notion of creating something so important was a little daunting. Being the daring dame I am, I took myself to my local art store and explained to the kind sales clerk what I wanted to accomplish. She promptly pointed me to the paper aisle. And it is there that I fell in love.
Most of us have at least a little hands on experience with paper crafts. Chances are you made lots of great little paper projects in elementary school. (Can you feel the tissue paper on your fingertips and smell the white paste right now?) I suspect many of you are involved in one of the hot paper crafts right now such as scrapbooking, rubber stamping, bookmaking, and collage. But did you know that there’s more papery goodness out there to explore?
Here are some inspiring paper crafts you might not be familiar with.
Architectural Models
There are so many paper projects based on great architectural wonders of the world that you could build a whole model city. Here are some resources for you to check out online:

Household items / Décor
I love it when crafty projects do double duty as functional pieces of art. Have you considered making paper bowls such as the ones pictured from Molly Chicken? Check out her site for a detailed how-to.
Jewelry
Paper is a great material for jewelry making, and it is so easy to work with. You can make your own paper baubles via great tutorials at Being Natasha Fialkov.
Printmaking
I am madly in love with printmaking! Whether you use rubber stamps, linoleum blocks, Print Gocco machines, or invest in a vintage letterpress, printmaking is a fabulous way to make your artistic mark on paper.
There’s so much more I haven’t covered! The wide world of paper crafts is truly vast. From architectural models to household décor to moving toys to making actual paper, there’s sure to be another craft out there that will make you fall in love with paper all over again.
