You have been waiting for this moment for what seems like an eternity! Your high school career came to an end just a few short months ago, and now you are on your way to discovering all that a college education has to offer. New friends, living on your own, and of course learning at a much higher level than you are used to are all in store for incoming freshmen. While it may be a bit daunting to think about all that you are about to experience, do not fret! Millions of people have been in your very shoes and they made it through! Your college experience is sure to be one of the most enjoyable times throughout your entire life, so it is important for you to be prepared. Listed below are a few helpful tips for preparing yourself for your freshman year of college:

Make Any List Minute Purchases Now

You are about to embark on a completely new journey, nothing like you have ever experienced before. You are no longer going to be living in your parents' home and you can totally customize your dorm any way that you like (as long as you clear it with your roommate first!). There are some definite necessities that you will need for your dorm room – from bed linens to posters to decorate your walls with. You want to be sure you have everything before you move out, because you may not be able to buy everything you need on campus. Another important item that you will need to buy is a desk that is suited for studying – something that you will be doing a lot of throughout your college career.

Prepare to Make a New Social Circle

You are probably nervous about meeting an entirely new group of people. Odds are you have developed some extremely close friendships throughout high school, some of whom you may have been friends with for well over a decade! These friendships are still incredibly important in your life, and you should work to maintain them through regular texting, phone calls, and video chats. However, your friends will not be alongside with you at your new school, so it is important to make a whole new batch of friends at college. You may feel a bit ambivalent, but everyone is in the same boat as you – they all want to make new friends just as badly as you do! Be open to trying new activities, meeting new people, and stepping outside of your comfort zone.

Final Thoughts

College is going to be one of the best time periods in your life. You will look back on this time in your life as the glory days, where you spent all of your time hanging with friends, learning interesting subject material, and building memories that will last a lifetime. When preparing yourself for your freshman year of college, as long as you remember to make any list minute purchases before you move in and prepare yourself to make a new social circle, you are sure to have a blast!
