Michael's sells these basic foam safari hats for $1 during spring/summer. I took it upon myself to dress it up a bit with 1.5" wide dotted ribbon and self-adhesive letters from the same store. For the black "applique", I cut the shape out freehand, giving it a more primitive look and hot-glued it into place.

The super light foam materials kept her from yanking this particular hat off every 5 minutes. But she's pretty good with hats all around, so that's a bonus.

Gabs' recieved tons of compliments on this hat. Everyone wanted to know where we bought it at! Other kids who were tired from the heat of the summer were wearing $15 to $20 hats that were heavy, bulky, and made of hard plastic. I'm soooo glad I thought of this before we found ourselves in Animal Kingdom.
