Etsy CT Street Team Jewelry Spectacular
June 8th, 2008 in jewelry makingThe sweltering 95 degree heat might have kept the masses away from
this small North Haven, CT show, but I was not disappointed by the
crafters and jewelry found at the Jewelry Spectacular.
The show was a small affair with about 20 tables in a conference room
at the Holiday Inn, North Haven. Each of the first 200 people to arrive
could choose a free jewelry item from the Etsy sponsored table. I chose
a black and white beaded bracelet from Kelly Rothen’s Colorscape Designs, which I am sure I will wear often.
Beyond
the great things to buy, and there were many great things to buy, I got
to meet some great people. Joining this fantastic community of crafters
has been the best part of working on CraftStylish. It was great meeting
Jillian Lyons,
the CT Etsy Street Team Leader, who headed up the event. Her passion
for crafts is obvious and it seemed everyone appreciated her hard work
in planning the event.
My great find of the weekend was the glass jewelry designed by Luana at Below 14th Studio.
I bought a beautiful red poppy ring that I haven't wanted to take off,
and am currently working with her to create a custom heart pendant.
After the show, I returned home to check out Luana's blog and found some descriptive tutorials of her jewelry making technique
and stories of how she quit her job to open her own glass jewelry
studio. When you visit her website, pay special note to the
photography, her work is shown in beautiful detail.
Lola Ochman’s designs for The Lola Collection of glass and decoupage paper have a vintage feel, while Jen Grant, of Goose on the Loose, works with more traditional stones and metals inspired by nature. There was also a nautical theme with The Starry Eyed Pirate’s fun totes and jewelry.
I had a great time at this event and can’t wait until my next adventure when we go to the Renegade Craft Fair in Brooklyn on June 14th and 15th. Stop by the CraftStylish booth to say hi if you can make it to the fair!

I'm not sure if my absence can be blamed on a lapse of reason due to the heat or my own regular goofiness! Though I wrote a post previewing this event, I got it stuck in my head that it lasted until 7 p.m. Around 5:30, I burst into a very quiet retirement dinner that was scheduled in the room after the Spectacular had ended. Oh well...I hear the CT Etsy Team may be planning a "green" themed event. I'll totally be at that! Posted: 3:06 pm on June 9th
