Whimsical stars on this sweater were great for this cast cover.

Turn colorful wool sweaters into unique cast covers, and recycle too!  These started as finds from the thrift store—wet felted in the washing machine (wash with detergent in hot water, dry in dryer on hot setting). Sweaters with a fiber content of approximately 70% lambswool, 20% angora (rabbit hair), and 10% nylon wet-felt to a thickness similar to polar fleece.  Using a wavy blade rotary cutter, the sleeve is cut off--then sewn shut at the cuff (which becomes the toe of the cover). Because the sweater is so stretchy, it will conform to most splints/casts.  A great way to keep exposed toes warm!  An easy gift, make several and brighten any patient’s recovery.
