Spinning a Spider Web...Sort Of
June 19th, 2008 in other crafts, crochetYou might find this project a bit of a stretch as far as crochet goes, but it was too cool not to mention. According to BoingBoing, in 1998 artist Nina Katchadourian started repairing spider webs with thread dipped in glue. The morning after her very first mending, she found the rejected threads nearby, and the spider had replaced them with its own repairs. She displayed these "reject patches" with photos of their original habitat.
The project was part of her "Uninvited Collaborations with Nature" series--check out the others, including one where she repaired mushrooms with a bike patch kit and another where she added googly eyes to a barnacle encrusted rock. I'd love to stumble upon a project like this out in the world one day, wouldn't you?
