Nascar Painted Shoes "Body and Soul"

Commissioned Jeff Gordon Nascar shoes.  The recipient is a huge Nascar/ Jeff Gordon Fan. I used the design of his 2008 DUPONT car. And I named this design Body and Soul
The outside panels of the shoes Black Vans are the most difficult to paint! Without the help of guidelines (which you can draw on white Vans) All of the painting is freehand and irreversibly permanent.   
The inside panels of the shoes I changed up the NASCAR logo to say RACING so when worn, end to end they read NASCAR RACING

Front close-up I researched Nascar car frames/engines/bodies and specifically Jeff Gordon to design these shoes, for an official yet crafted result.

Here is a commissioned pair of shoes I painted recently.  They were for an avid "Jeff Gordon/NASCAR/Elvis" fan.  These shoes were a huge challenge! NASCAR is defined by the sponsorships, logos and designs.  I also had to scrap some of my original drawings (which included my signature skeletons) due to the death imagery which is a big NASCAR taboo (eek, high mortality sport) I was completely stumped on how to incorporate my personal style and artistry into a shoe concept driven by established images.  While researching NASCAR I found an image of a motor and dash panel which inspired these, the final design; The "Skeleton" of the car with driver and engine visible, and the body with all the car logos DUPONT, PEPSI, etc.  I also had fun finding a way to tuck Elvis into the mix, so "Jeff" is wearing a pair of lucky blue suede shoes.
