At Long Last, the Obamarama Shawl
comments (4) January 15th, 2009I have found so much peace and joy knitting this shawl through many Countdowns with Keith Olbermann, during a bachelorette weekend on Whidbey Island, on Election Night, and during a recent spate of unfortunate events.
It's based on a basic feather and fan pattern:
Row 1: Knit
Row 2: Purl
Row 3: k2tog three times, repeat of (yo k1 six times, k2tog six times) until last six stitches, k2tog three times
Row 4: Knit
I also added a garter border of 6 stitches on the beginning and end of each row. I bound off after about 25 or 30 groups of 4 rows. Make sense? I find the feather and fan pattern such a good bang for an easy knitting buck. Give it a go for a scarf!
In the future, you can find me at my website or blogs, Things I Want to Punch in the Face and Prairie Tales. My new book, Backcountry Betty: Crafting with Style, is in stores now.

I love your shawl. The yarn is so beautiful; what kind is it? Do you remember how many skeins/balls/yards of it were necessary to make the shawl?
