Custom Wedding Shoes
I custom designed the images on these shoes specifically for the bride they were made for and the particular details of their relationship/wedding.
Here, the "Claddagh" image reflects a special tattoo she has as well as a ring she always wears. I added a Celtic knot in the heart. The flowers are exactly what her bouquet was comprised of (Calla lillies, circus roses, and hydrangeas).

I tried to make the shoes so much more than a pretty pair of wedding shoes. I wanted to commemorate the event by making a keepsake.
I painted the bride and groom's last names and the wedding date and location here in a scrolly font, and proposal/honeymoon details (see the close-up views for more).
I designed the inside panels based on the groom's proposal and their honeymoon. The groom proposed on a ski trip at a favorite vacation spot for the two, Park City, Utah. I researched the place and used actual images of the view there to create this image with them in the foreground. On the other shoe I created a "honeymoon" image of them using actual images of Kauai Beach, where they were going.
(A side note: the proposal image has their footsteps leading toward each other, and the honeymoon has them walking together, side by side.)

I designed the outside panels with the location and date of the wedding and from photographs I requested of her dress and their rings. Her dress was beautifully simple with two crystal snowflake-like brooches at the collarbones, which I reflected on the left shoe and their custom-made rings, which I intertwined on the right.

Here is a close-up of the names and other text. I added shadow to the letters to make them a bit more interesting than just plain writing. The shoes went from being pretty to being heirlooms by simply adding these personal touches.

Steve Van Doren (of Vans shoes) commissioned these Vans shoes for his niece, who wore them down the aisle in her recent wedding! I designed these shoes with the goals of beauty, subtlety, and heirloom quality. I wanted (of course!) to impress Steve Van Doren, but more than that, I loved the idea of making a pair of casual comfortable KVD design Vans into something appropriate for a wedding... I wanted to take the idea to another level and make them not only rival the most lovely (strappy, satin, rhinestone, uncomfortable!) wedding shoes out there, but also be truly as special as the occasion. I hope I accomplished that goal.:)
