A bright red, firmly felted sweater will make a very cozy and romantic set of mitts.
If you dont have your sweeties hand available, use an existing pair of gloves as a template.

Tape together two sheets of paper. Position the hand templates in a hand-holding position on the paper to get an estimation of the size your mitt needs to be, and mark the top edge and each cuff position on the paper.

For a smooth and even edge, draw around a dinner plate.

Begin at the top by tracing a curve, then draw one side of the mitt. Fold the paper in half and trace the outline, ensuring that you will have a uniform design.

Cut out the paper templates.

Depending on the size of your sweater, you may have to do some creative positioning of the templates to make sure you have enough material. I just had enough wiggle room! Pin down the templates, and cut out the fabric with a 1/4-inch seam allowance.

Extend the "cuff" area to suit your length requirements.

Position the templates to maximize the sleeve material.

SewDanish writes: I once bought a beautiful hand knittet version of this "holding hands glove" in Norway. Was knittet with a lovely traditional Norwegian pattern. I still have it :-)

JenniferStern writes: Hey Tina, I had a guy in my skill building sewing class a couple of years ago... He sewed all sorts of interesting stuff. One of the projects I remember him making was a "love glove"...so he could hold hands with this wife on walks when the weather was cold. Great project....romantic and practical!
