Every year I make handmade gifts for those on my gifting list. It can be a challenge to come up with something handmade, useful, and something that will be well received by the recipient. This year was a bit harder because of pulling up roots and moving from the west coast to the east coast because most of my crafting supplies are now in storage. Luckily I managed to keep my sewing machine and some material handy.

Most of the fabric for these bowls came from fat quarters bought for another project. The cotton clothesline was readily available in Oregon and purchased before the move. The baskets are surprisingly quick to make so I had several done in no time. My fabric strips were 3/4" wide and no more than 22" long. I cut the ends at an angle and used a fabric glue stick to glue the strips together as I came to the ends while wrapping. 100 feet of clothesline was enough for 3 baskets. I also had most of the clothesline wrapped for each basket before taking them to the machine. The book Sewing Pottery by Machine by Barbara Warholic was my inspiration along with the Craftstylish article on How to Sew a Fabric Bowl - http://www.craftstylish.com/item/33825/how-to-sew-a-fabric-bowl/page/all.

These particular bowls were sent to the women in my spinning group in Southern Oregon.
