A Visit to Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts
June 25th, 2008 in other crafts, jewelry making, paper crafts, quiltingArrowmont is a nationally renowned center of contemporary arts and crafts education, offering short, intensive workshops in the summer and fall. It’s nestled in a quiet spot just off the main street of Gatlinburg, TN, minutes away from Great Smoky Mountain National Park. I had a chance to briefly visit the campus this past weekend when we attended a family reunion in the area. Wow—I’d love to take a class there. Unfortunately, there were none in session on the day I was there, so I didn't get inside any of the studios, but I did see the 2008 Summer Faculty Exhibition and visit the bookstore, which has a great collection. What a treat in the midst of Gatlinburg—where souvenir and fudge shops dominate and tourists are everywhere! If you’re ever in that neighborhood, be sure to visit. Better yet, check out the class schedule. I don’t know if there’s room in any of this summer's remaining classes, but the Fall session starts on Sept. 21—and there’s always next summer.
