How to Make a Punk-Rock Puppy Skirt
February 17th, 2009 in sewing, other crafts, fashionLittle dogs and puppies beg to be dressed, right?! Try your hand at gathering and working with tulle to pull off this punk-rock-styled skirt for your pooch.
Supplies:
- 3/4-inch ribbon
- 1/4 to 1/2 yard of tulle
- 1/4 to 1/2 yard of black cotton fabric
- White thread
Wrap the ribbon around your dog's waist and tie it in a bow, then cut the ribbon from the spool. This is the ribbon you will use to tie your skirt onto your dog. Next, for small dogs, cut a strip from your cotton fabric 6 inches wide by 18 inches long. From your tulle, cut eight strips 8 inches wide by 18 inches long. For medium dogs, cut a strip from your cotton fabric 8 inches wide by 22 inches long and eight strips of tulle 10 inches wide by 24 inches long. Finally, for large dogs, cut a strip from your cotton fabric 12 inches wide by 30 inches long and eight strips of tulle 12 inches wide by 30 inches long. Hem one long edge of the cotton and both short sides so you have three finished edges. Pin your cotton fabric and your tulle together, matching the edges.

Next, we need to gather the unfinished, top edge of the skirt. Baste the top edge of the skirt 1/4 inch away from the raw edge and then 1/2 inch away from that same edge.
| Gather the top edge by basting at 1/4 inch and 1/2 inch. |
Gently pull the ends of your thread to gather the fabric. Center the top edge of the gathered skirt on the strip of ribbon. Using a zigzag stitch, stitch down the center of your ribbon. Try the skirt on your pooch!
