MUG HUGGER
April 3rd, 2009 in sewing, restyle, galleryI drink tons and take my jug everywhere I go, years ago I saw a similar product in a retail store, however it was on a very small jug and I use an extra large drink mug that weights in at a whopping 3 lbs. when full. Carrying the jug by the handle really isn't practical so I took an old suitcase apart and draped my jug, I used the parts of the suitcase that already had snaps on it and took the binding off of the side and made a handle, removed a zipper from the inside and made the side pocket. I used some of the trim to make a keychain. Everything used except the thread came off of the old suitcase. Can you imagine how many drink cups or bottles would be kept out of the landfill if more people would just reuse the jug they drink out of? Whew, a bunch!!!
Our local animal shelter holds an annual yard sale from community donations, I ask them to box up all suitcases, purses, backpacks etc. that don't sell, and I take them apart and use the zippers, hangers, buckles (everything usable) to make dog packs, purses, motorcycle packs, grocery bags, etc. This keeps alot of materials out of the landfill and is recycled into very usable and cool stuff.
