This beautiful, petal-covered bauble is made from six sheets of paper and a few clever folds.
This unassuming origami model, when paired with five identical components, creates a charming, and useful, ornamental box.
A simple box becomes an extraordinary jewel with just a few quick pinches of the paper flaps on its six faces.

When all six components are assembled, your model will look like this. You're almost done except for one final maneuver that turns this simple box into something unexpectedly beautiful.

Using the thumb and forefinger of one hand, gather together and pinch all of the flaps visible on the flat faces of your cube.

Do this to all six sides (the paper flaps will quite naturally want to stay in the pinched position).

The result is a part box, part leafy petals, and part paper jewel.

Seen from a different angle, your box might be mistaken as a paper rose of sorts.

MarcioWilges writes: Wow! I did not know origami could ever be possible for me to accomplish. However, with your step-by-step guidelines, this beautiful piece of box artwork does seem achievable. I shall try it this weekend as a family bonding activity with the people at home. I will definitely ensure I have the right colours that I want because I bet if I ever wanted to have different colours, the removal of each individual strip would be crazy once the whole thing has been fixed together.

Daydah writes: @DefyingDestiny if you got step 8 perfectly, then step 9 is as easy as making sure the top edge touches the 'squarish' one you made in step 8. As long as it doesnt overshoot that, the fold is accurate.

emmyt writes: I love making these boxes, they become addictive, I use them for small to gifts and the receiver likes the box as much as the gift. The are fasinated by the box. I have used scrapbook paper, but I have also used wallpaper, I have some wallpaper books and they make really nice boxes since the paper is heavy but easy to fold. So yes I have made many and had some on hand ready made, I have them all folded to store and just put the sides together when I want to use one. Easy to store that way.

DefyingDestinyy writes: Can someone please guide me through the second part of step 9. I don't understand where you're supposed to fold. Well, I don't understand where the folded part is supposed to go. When I try to do it, it doesn't look like the picture, and the paper doesn't want to bend. I really want to do this because the end result looks beautiful. Please help.
