scrappy pins
April 14th, 2009 in other crafts, galleryI used to hand-dye silk and then make it into scarves and other various clothing. As the pile at my feet grew from the serged ends of the fabric, I was caught by the beauty of the color and texture that the mound was making. So, I gathered it all up, stuffed it away and waited for inspiration hit. One day as I sat at a very dismal art fair I pulled out my bursting bag and started playing around with the little strands to pass the time. I twisted and tied and wrapped the edglings until a little shaped started to appear. As most of my work is inspired by nature and animals I started with a simpler shape of the birds you see in the background. As they popped out, one by one, I figured out how to make arms and legs and that is how the little guy in the foreground came into being. I plan to expand on this theme soon.
