The very first Earth Day was officially held on April 22nd, 1970. Thirty-nine years later, we continue to celebrate the earth while eco-friendly and sustainable practices are becoming more a part of our everyday lives. Let this Earth Day be a day to honor these advances by making a personal commitment toward creating and crafting richer, greener, and more meaningful lives for ourselves and others.

CraftStylish has had a great run this year of eco-friendly craft projects and how-tos from our ever-resourceful and green-minded crafting corp of bloggers. This week our book giveaway is for a copy of the sublimely outdoorsy and naturally chic Backcountry Betty: Roughing It in Style by CraftStylish blogger Jennifer Worick. New fans to Jennifer's crafty wit and literary genius are in for a wild ride of natural inspiration (and survival techniques!) using materials that can be found anywhere, while the Worick faithful can look forward to next week when Jennifer willl add a new title to her growing list of best-sellers, Backcountry Betty: Crafting with Style. And yes, you guessed it—Backcountry Betty: Crafting with Style is waiting in the wings for our next giveaway. Yay, Jen!

Earth Day is also marks the finish line for the CraftStylish Crafty by Nature Challenge. More than 80 eco-friendly projects have been entered into The Crafty by Nature Challenge. It is a real treat to visit the Crafty by Nature Galler—go on over and feast your eyes on dozens of "green" projects that use natural, recycled, and upcycled materials. One of these entries will take home a Yudu personal screen printer—which one would you pick? Find out which one we'll choose next week on CraftStylish when we'll announce the grand-prize winner and the three runners-up who will win a Red Heart Yarn eco-friendly package.

CraftStylish has been thrilled to host special guest blogger Matt Embrey, an editor and founder of Greenupgrader.com, to our site this earth month. His excitement and enthusiasm for sustainable practices is infectious, and we are grateful for his insight and eco-freindly inspiration for our swiftly changing planet. Be sure to go on over to Greenupgrader.com. There are so many ideas, initiatives, technologies, and techniques that are not only exciting for what they do but also in how they do it: In short, it's a crafter's heaven. In Matt's first post for CraftStylish.com, he put forth his personal belief that crafters possess the imagination and ingenuity to save the planet: Now that's a challenge we can rise to.

Happy Earth Day, everyone!!!!

Thanks for helping to make CraftStylish greener!
