Toile de Jouy
June 4th, 2009 in sewing, fashion, galleryI created this playful sundress using Simplicity pattern 2657. Inspired by the French country side, I used cream and black cotton toile depicting men and women at work on a country estate. The bodice and straps are trimmed with cream colored eyelet, and the crisscross pattern is emphasized with thin black ribbon and a black velvet ribbon just below the bust.
I used French seams inside the dress because I do not have a serger but still wanted a finished look. The side zipper was reinforced and hand sewn for durability. Trying to stay faithful to the look of the original pattern, I focused on making my dress unique by using a whimsically patterned fabric and using trims to add personality.
I entered this contest as a way to challenge myself with my sewing skills and would dearly love to win the pattern-drafting software. Best of luck to all entrants!
