Prudence Mapstone, the queen of freeform crochet and knitting, has a new (to me!) blog where she's posting a scrumble every week. If you're not familiar with freeform knit/crochet, it's the art of combining different yarns, textures, stitches, and embellisments to make a unique fabric. Small pieces of the work are called scrumbles—I like to think of them as little brainstorms—and sometimes they are sewn together to form a larger piece or garment. The various surface textures in Mapstone's work are exquisite, and I'm excited to see her weekly pieces.
