As you can see I have really developed and obsession with making these coiled baskets.  The fun part is that everyone turns out so differently and there are so many fabric combinations that work that it is fun to play.  My husband used to do a lot of pottery and says that I can make more shapes than he could make on the potters wheel.

lauratdesigns2 writes: hi there, I have been experimenting with the coil baskets and love them. what do you do to get the sides to go up straight. mine seem to spread out at an angle.
any suggestions would be helpful.

Susanspel writes: When I make the outside coils I make sure to have enough covered rope left to do what I want on the outside of the basket. I make sure to stitch the wrapped rope. I then make my design with the rope on the outside of the basket and pin in strategic places. I then hand stitch the coiled design on the basket as well as the beading. The ribbon is woven through scallops made with the cording on the top of the basket.
