How to Create a Mosaic Mirror
comments (3) August 4th, 20094. Lay out the tiles. Arrange the broken plate and mosaic tile pieces on the mirror’s edge. Use a tile cutter to better size the plate pieces for fit.

A tile cutter can make the job of trimming tiles to fit easier. |
Stick to It
The pieces are now in place so you can give this mosaic mirror some permanence. This is where the project gets gooey, so you may want to put on some rubber gloves.
1. Apply the Pieces. With a glue brush, add tile adhesive to the tiles, plate pieces, and the frame surface. Press the pieces into place. Don’t worry if a little adhesive squeezes out from under the tile or plate piece; it will be covered by the grout. Allow the adhesive to dry for 24 hours.

2. Grout the tiles. Use a rubber spatula to fill the grooves between the tiles with grout. To make cleanup easier, be sure to wipe excess grout off the tiles with the spatula. Wait exactly 20 minutes before proceeding to the next step; the grout needs to set a bit.

Tip: If your mirror is large, you may need to pace yourself when it comes to grout application and cleanup. For the mirror shown, the grouting and cleaning steps were completed in four, 1 1⁄2-foot segments. |
3. Clean up the grout. Wipe away any excess grout on top of the tiles with a barely damp sponge. Let the grout set for at least 24 hours before you hang the mirror.

Grout should set for 24 hours before hanging the mirror to make sure everything is set. |
