How to make a victorian style necklace
comments (0) August 15th, 2009To make this side interest necklace, you can use whatever pastel colored beads or sizes you have on hand. Just have fun with it. You don't have to be exact. The materials I used, are as follows.
Round nose pliers
Wire clippers
About 25 inches of silver chain
1 polymer clay pink rose
1 silver filigree bead cap
1 large white pearl
4 facuted clear beads
14 pink beads
18 turquoise beads
4 baby blue pearls
21 tear drop beads
9 white beads
1 silver toggle clasp
About 74 - 1 inch silver headpins
4- 2 inch silver headpin
4 silver jump rings
1 silver toggle clasp
Make your tassel first by cutting a 3 inch piece of the chain off. Take a 1 inch headpin and thread onto it your largest bead with bead cap and one of the clear fauceted beads. Using your round nose pliers attach this directly on the the end of the 3 inch piece of chain. You may want to use a jump ring but I attached mine directly to the chain loop.
Lay aside 4 pink beads, 3 turquoise beads, 2 white beads and one tear drop bead. Take a 1 inch headpin and place one of these beads on it and attach to the tassel chain, mixing the colors, one after the other, right above the big bead. Now you have your tassel made. Attach tassel to the center of your chain or use a jump ring to attach it to the center.
Lay aside 3- 2 inch headpins. On 1 headpin place 4 of the turquoise beads and attach to chain about three inches from the tassel. Next to this attach the pink rose.
Take another 3 inch headpin and place 3 of the clear facuted beads on it and attach it to the chain about two inches above the rose. Two inches above this attachement start randomly attaching colors of beads to the chain, filling in the rest of the chain down to the tassel. I clustered some of the teardrop beads around the pink rose to make it stand out more. Attach a toggle clasp or another closure of your choice.
This looks difficult to make but actually it is very easy and jf you make a mistake or it does not look right to you, just rearrange it. No two will ever turn out the same. That's what makes it uniquely yours. Mine is for sale at: www.CraftedWithStyle.etsy.com
