Irinas trench coat design was reminiscent of Coco Chanel. The collar and cuffs added volume and dimension.
Christopher created a full feather skirt which contrasted with a hardened armor-like top creating a glamorous gown.
Johnny paired with his bad attitude with this pop art print and created an 80s look that was not a favorite with judges.

This week the fashion world sets their sights on NYC as Fashion Week comes to a close. While newspapers cover the new collections of people we know well (like "top American designer Michael Kors"), our favorite runway designers were challenged to create garments from this unusual material. Instead of shopping at their usual fabric haunt, Mood, the designers were given 3 minutes to raid the warehouse of The Los Angeles Times. Designers could use materials including newsprint, tape, paint, glue, and muslin (as long as it didn't show) to create their garments.

The drama this week (let's face it, there is always something) was all about Johnny. He made excuses for a poor design by lying about a steamer malfunction. The other designers (and Tim) finally tired of his attitude and Nicolas was forced to call him out on the runway for his excuses.

Our panel of judges this week once again differs from the usual suspects and includes Zoe Glassner, Senior Editor for Marie Claire Magazine, actress Eva Longoria Parker, and designer Tommy Hillfiger.

Top 3:

Althea's garment had a classic shape and used building images layered like fans.

Irina's trench coat design was reminiscent of Coco Chanel. The collar and cuffs added volume and dimension.

Christopher created a full feather skirt which contrasted with a hardened armor-like top creating a glamorous gown.

Bottom 3:

Gordana's design was architectural and wearable, but in the end was also boring and conventional.

Johnny paired his bad attitude with this pop art print and created a 80s look that was not a favorite with judges.

Nicolas went for punk and ended up with "insects." This was not only tacky, but also not well constructed.

Safe:

Logan recovered from last week's misstep by using a little less blue.

Ra'mon took the initiative to try separates with a skirt and top.

Epperson opted to create a kimono look with his newsprint.

Carol Hannah created a long gown, which did not resemble newsprint in the end.

Shirin designed an angular skirt, which did not leave an impression with the judges.

Louise also went with an Asian influence.

Irina was the winner with her couture trench coat, earning immunity for next week. This week's final two came down to Nicolas and Johnny, but Johnny and his excuses finally were sent packing. Tell use your opinion in the polls.
