Sparkling Bow and Round Hips Dress
comments (0) September 17th, 2009 in galleryThis dress was inspired by a Dolce and Gabbana dress from their Spring 2009 ready-to-wear collection. I was fascinated by the flat round skirts they had that flared so much at the hips, yet they didn't look ugly!
So I experimented with this by rounding the skirt of the dress at the hips. I was also inspired by the 20's, so I used a very heavy, black knit fabric. I draped the fabric onto the dress form and I sewed the side seams with small running stitches, everywhere else I used back stitches to allow for stretch. The really long bow I sewed together with whip stitches. The beaded bow on the bow I beaded to add shine. Since the hips were so huge, I thought it would be appropriate to put in some extra large invisible side pockets! Wearing this dress, you can be extra adorable but also practical! The straps are sewn with backstitches then turned inside out with a hook.
