ADRI inspired dress and 2 matching jackets
September 22nd, 2009 in sewing, fashion, restyle, memory making, galleryI fell in love with this ADRI Vogue pattern when I saw it. They were very casual in style, yet with the angled hems, the pieces were quite fashionable. I decided to make a basic linen striped dress that could be dressed up with the lace jacket or dressed a bit sportier with the yellow one.
I decided to angle the jacket differently, however because I am very short as well as a plus size. I wanted to elongate my legs in the dress a bit more so I angled both jackets to lengthen at the sides instead of the front, which I thought might cut my body in half and shorten me even more. I also added a striped inset to the yellow jacket to make it a bit sportier. Because of how I created the stripes on the front, I also had to make a facing for the entire jacket which was not included on the original ADRI patterns. On the main dress I also added a small pleat to the back and took in the sides to make it more fitted so that I had a well-defined waist. The jackets' lengths are designed to hit me right above the waistline so that my legs and the bottom of the dress can create an elongated line.
I was inpsired by ADRI as well as by the tank dresses which First Lady Michelle Obama has worn over the last several months (to see some of the fashions which inspired me, you can go to Harpers Bazaar Fashion pages here: http://www.harpersbazaar.com/fashion/fashion-articles/michelle-obama-fashion).
After making these three main pieces, I loved them so much I started working on a matching tank top and pants so I can have the entire matching wardrobe when I'm done.
