Floral Evening Gown

This ball gown is inspired by this black and white floral Oscar de la Renta gown. I made the pattern for the dress myself by draping it on a dressform. I wanted to have fun with the color so I choose this red, black, and cream floral cotton sateen fabric to make it more for spring (almost like a fantasy garden party dress!). I also wanted to make my design more wearable so I decided to not have any tulle peeking out of the front and to lower the waist. I also added a black satin ribbon belt that buttons under a bow at the front and black swarovski crystals all over the entire bodice. I love how the crystals catch the light when the dress moves. I also pleated the waist of my gown instead of gathering it like the Oscar de la Renta gown. The dress has a built in three layer, boned corset (which stands up on its own) with a waist stay. The entire dress is also fully lined in red and closes with an invisible zipper. The hem is sewn to the lining by hand and has horsehair braid to add stiffness, in addition to a full-length petticoat.
