We all have go-to people or reference books to help us through those tricky sewing spots. Where do you turn when the sewing gets tough?

Do you have a favorite sewing book, website, magazine, or a friend that you call up when your stitching just isn't right?

She's a whiz, and is always ready to help if you come in with problems. Unfortunately shops like this seem to be going the way of the dinosaur, being replaced by craft chain stores that are too busy to give you the time of day and call you "guests"!

Patternista writes: There are so many places and people from which to learn and I do a lot of them - books, magazines, patterns, tips and tricks from sewing and quilting magazines but I learn best by actually seeing how something is done. That means I attend classes at the sewing shows, attend meetings of the American Sewing Guild, attend classes at local quilt shops, do programs for my local ASG neighborhood group for which I have to do some research. What I value the most is the personal connection I have to several friends who also like to learn and share their knowledge and creativity. I also visit the high end garment sections in local department stores to see how different techniques are done and perhaps used in a very different way. It helps me get out of my box!

But if I deviate from this plan, I will usually figure it out or ask my sister and we work on the problem together.
