Ah yes, it is Flitch Day again! This old English honeymoon custom dates all the way back to the 11th century when once a year a slab or "flitch" of bacon was given to married couples who could testify to one year of marital bliss, or as the old English put it, "not wishing themselves unwed." The expression "bringing home the bacon" finds its origins in this day of observance and apparently, according to the old record books, not many couples did. Back in the day, couples would set out to prove their happiness and fidelity before a mock court of unmarried men and women. If they succeeded, a group of local monks presented them with their bacon prize.

To help you to celebrate Flitch Day, we naturally thought of Megan Reardon of notmartha fame. After all, Megan is a crafty Seattlite who recently had occasion to make something up for a bacon-themed event. Once you check out her incredible bacon cups and curled strips of bacon, you'll be happy that it is Flitch Day. Oh, and just so you know, Megan is not only a pork craftster but her site also features delicious non-bacon recipes and terrific knitting how-to projects. And don't miss her gorgeous knitting and crochet needle cases at theorganizedknitter.

Happy Flitch Day!
