I don’t know about you, but I absolutely love the portraits that hand-embroidery artists like Jenny Hart design. Still, designing my own definitely seemed a little out of my realm, seeing as the last project on my embroidery repertoire was a 2-inch Dalmatian I stitched over ten years ago. But when I happened upon Dolin O’Shea’s of Lulubliss.typepad.com embroidery tutorial, it certainly got me thinking, “Well that wasn’t so hard…” rather than, “I may need an art degree for this…” This straightforward tutorial with tips for transferring designs to dark and light fabric is certainly inspiration to stop admiring and start experimenting. Plus, Dolin chose to embroider a picture of her dog, which in my book guarantees an “aw” at the very least.

Any tips for turning a photograph into an embroidery design? What photo would you choose?
