I used the belt loops across the front of the bag so that my daughter could hang cool keychains and bobbles on the bag. I also made the strap detachable. The knots can be taken out to lengthen the strap as she gets older.
I handmade the button on the bag out of polymer clay. The bottom of the flap is from the back of the jeans that were used to make the bag.
To create the inside pocket I cut away the zipper and then sewed the front pockets together to create the look of one pocket, but really it is two. Then I fused one of the back pockets on the front and hand embroidered the rainbow stitching.
The bag is fully lined and has a big side pocket to keep her drawing books and two more smaller ones to keep pencils and such.
The back of the bag has one large pocket with the other back pocket fused to it and hand embroidered once again. I figured you can never have too many pockets.

I made this bag for my daughter, a budding artist, as a very special gift for her 7th birthday. The bag is my own design. I used pair of $2 thrift store jeans because of all the pockets and loops, and I knew it would be able to take wear and tear. I am entering this bag into the eco-chic category - because I restyled an old pair of jeans into a cool art bag. I would love to win for my daughter. To be able to use the craft goodies with her would be so cool. Plus, how fun would it be to be able to pass along the knitting supplies to my Mom - the women who taught me to sew and to love crafting.
