How to make ornaments with felt and ribbons
comments (0) December 17th, 2009You need:
- Paper, markers... scissors
- Felt
- Ribbons
- A needle (suitable for the ribbons)
- Threads
- Stuffing
Before anything think of the desing you'll use... draw it if you have to... I thought of some basic snowflakes...
- Draw a pattern for the ornament on paper, cut it and mark it on the fabric, in this case the felt... I'm pretty messy so I use anything handy... I used water markers (they don't dry on the felt so I ended up with black fingers)...
- Cut the felt (fold the fabric so you get the front and the back at once)
- Chose the front piece and mark the design you'll use (mine was pretty basic so I only marked guide spots)
- Start embroidering with the ribbons...
If you've never done it... is not too hard... is just as using thread... you just need to know few things... if you're using thin ribbons like me, you won't make a knot to start... use a lighter to burn a little of the ribbon end... then just start... When you get to the end, burn the end and press it against the ribbon on the back (be careful) - When the embroidery's done, attach the back and the front (leave a part for the stuffing)... there's the felt stitch... if you don't know it check this youtube video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nJht13Bcw-U
- Stuff the ornament... and finish the attaching
- Add details...
I hope you like them
