There are so many ways to use vintage fabrics!  One of my favorite fabrics is barkcloth from the 1930's - 1950's.  The designs are wonderful and many of the colors  are not common today (makes coordinating with other fabrics a challenge sometimes!) Since the barkcloth was primarily used for curtains, the fabrics are usually in pretty good shape.  Sun exposure can weaken the fibers, in which case I usually do some "quilting" on the piece I applique to strengthen it.
