Repurposed Altoids tin Advent calendar
comments (0) January 6th, 2010 in galleryI saved Altoids tins for several years, hoping I'd eventually come up with a good project for them. Finally, inspiration struck and I transformed the tins into a funky Advent calendar that can be used year after year.
I started by laying out the tins in a rough tree shape on a piece of brown Kraft paper and then tracing around them to make a pattern. I did use some non-Altoids tins, as you can probably tell from the photo.
I transferred the pattern to a piece of MDF and cut out the tree with a jigsaw. You could use a piece of scrap plywood, but I didn't have one that was large enough. Then I painted the tree with a bold lime green paint.
Next I spray painted all of the tins silver. Once dry, I used a two-part epoxy to attach the tins to the tree. Finally, I added some vinyl stick-on numbers that I found in my craft stash.
Voila! Just add candy or small gifts and you'll have a fun way to count down the days until Christmas.
