Raven Swallows the Moon
comments (0) February 7th, 2010 in galleryThis jacket depicts the Tlingit (Alaskan Indian) legend of the Raven Swallowing the Moon. White fine-wale corduroy is faced with a black and white cotton and edged with black furry gimp. A black and silver button makes for a striking closure.
Sleeve cuffs have a deep rounded slit edged with gimp and faced with the black cotton print. A short tight ruffle of black and shimmery white tulle pokes through the cuff slit and around the collar.
On the back princess seams black cord laces through bronzed and copper eyelets. The raven applique is a patterned swirl velvet, while the moon is a shimmery white gold disc, heavily quilted. The stacked buttons of the raven's eyes echo the style of Eskimo art with the large white eyes entirely surrounding the black pupil.
