I come from a long line of crafters/restylers and I'm glad I have finally found a forum in which to share some of my handy-works. I grew up poor-ish and a lot of down time at my house was spent crafting with my mother. I have fond memories of scouring local thrift stores with my mom and Grandmother. Mod-Podge always brings back fond memories of craft- filled summers. One of my fave memories of my Grandmother is spending a week, every summer, at her house. Every summer, she started her annual sewing fest on clothes for dollies that she would then give away to the Salvation Army come Christmas time. Although, the gigantic box of naked plastic dolls, with their rolly eyes, did creep me out. We would scrounge up fabric scraps from just about everywhere and make the cutest outfits for each doll. She is truly a talented and remarkable woman. When each doll was finished, she would tuck money (not alot; maybe a quater, maybe a dollar) into each doll's bloomers. Thinking of a child undressing her new dollie on Christmas and finding some unexpected money in it's bloomers gave us such a smile! Growing up poor-ish and coming from a family in which the the Grandparent grew up during the Depression, gave me an appreciation for handmade/restyled things. Why shop at the mall for something everyone else already has? I love individuality and the tiny imperfections only handmade things have. I am super excited to start uploading pic's of some of my handmade and loved treasures!
