Dragonfly Tote
comments (1) July 27th, 2008 in galleryI'm entering the Dragonfly Tote in the "All that Glitters" category because it's highly embellished. I made it in the manner of a crazy quilt, and free-motion embroidered it by machine.
It incorporates approximately 15 different fabrics, including cottons (new, used, and some hand-dyed), upholstery fabrics, velvets, batiks, and a piece of my sister's chiffon high school graduation dress from 1972. It's couched with metallic threads, novelty ribbons and yarns, and has pink cording outlining the edges. I hand sewed beads on the pockets, and free-motion embroidered the handles. It has 4 pockets -- 2 outside and 2 inside.
This bag should win because it's practical, zany, old-fashioned (crazy quilting), and totally up-to-date. It goes great with an all-white summer outfit, or with any of the colors used in the bag!
