Hand crocheted cotton fabric rag rugs
comments (4) May 2nd, 2010 in galleryHow I make my rag rugs...
All of my cotton rag rugs begin with full
bolts of hand chosen fabric from my fabric store.
The fabric is then cut into strips.
Then I sew these strips into long lengths
on the sewing machine using a zig zag stitch.
Then...these strips are hand
crocheted into the rug you see above.

I would love to supply you with a pattern unfortunately, I don't use a pattern. But, here is the gist of how to make the round rug. Using a "J" hook, chain 4, join with slip stitch, (crochet the rug in single crochet). Now crochet 2 stitches in each of the 4 stitches you started with...now you have 8 stitches. This rug is crocheted going around and around with no breaks. As you go around add 2 stitches in a stitch if you work does not lay flat. Just keep on crocheting until you are at the size rug you want. The next time I start a round rug, I will take pictures and post them for you to see. :)

I've been looking for a pattern like this one for so so long! Had also seen this done with the plastic bags, which the cleaners places over clothes.
Love the look of this fabric one, and it would be ideal for my new room to be decorated.
Thanks!
