A necktie has always been the classic gift to give any Dad for Father's Day. This year, make your own custom necktie using your pick of fabrics.  The Purl Bee has an easy how-to project to get you started. This project looks so simple that you could whip up a whole new wardrobe for your father this year.

Joanchek writes: A caveat on making ties. It's imperative you cut your fabric as close to perfectly on bias as possible, or the tie will never tie gracefully nor lay properly on the body. Take the time to hand baste, it's worth a good result.

I had discarded my pattern from a sew club project and there was no man's tie pattern in the catalogs. I ended up drafting a pattern. It worked, but yours is different and I plan to try it. TFS
