Clutch and Change Purse Set
comments (0) June 18th, 2010 in galleryMaterials used: Purple silk (from an old shirt), striped cotton, iron-on stiffening, clasp, a foot of thin ribbon, matching thread, Needle, Sewing Machine, a few pearl beads.
Clutch: This was actually quite simple to make. I cut a piece of stiffening about 7x15 or so, and then cut the cotton lining that size plus seam allowance. I ironed them together. Then cut the silk the same size plus a couple inches extra on one end for bunching. I then sewed them altogether (bunching the silk on the end to be the same size as the cotton) on three sides, flipped that inside out and sewing the remaining side shut. Then you just have to sew the bottom 1/3 to the middle 1/3 together, silk sides together and flip inside out out. You should be left with a remaining 1/3 (the one with the bunching) for the closure flap. I then sewed on the snaps and a little matching flower finished with pearl beads.
Change Purse: Just to rectanage about 2x3 sewed together on three sides and a tube of fabric along the remaining side to feed ribbon through. Ironed to be flat.
Hope that somewhat clear if anyone's interested. It really was an experiment and could be done in any number of ways.
Pattern or design used: My own design
