upcycled ecochic felt tote
July 31st, 2008 in galleryI love to recycle and this bag is totally ecofriendly...with a green heart, you might say! All of my materials were salvaged with the exception of the little embellishments on the interior pocket.
The felt was made from a poncho that I knit out of my own handspun, hand dyed yarn. It consists of wool and mohair. The mohair gives it a really nice texture. the button was made from 3 felted cashmere sweaters, so it feels as nice as it looks. The bag's gusset was made from salvaged suede patchwork as was the interior pocket and closure loop. The lining and the handles were made from salvaged skirt fabric (faux suede for the handles).

What I like are the little curls which you can see if you look at the detail of the funky button. How does that work? It looks like a fleece!
I am a science nerd, so it makes me wonder how the hairs are interacting: you take hair from a goat, spin it, knit it, felt it, and get back the curls from the original goat!
Nice colors, shapes, and textures in this bag. Posted: 9:23 pm on August 4th
