It is pretty big and has nice long handles.
Trimming the skirt to make the tote bag.

Eco-chic floral tote bag made from a skirt.

My friends had a clothes swap and I got this pretty a-line skirt. It was too small for me, but I was in love with the embroidered flower. So, I decided to make it into a tote bag.

I trimmed off the bottom and top of the skirt and sewed a bottom "I" seam. I removed the zipper and sewed up the back seam. I then used a wide grosgrain ribbon for the top binding and handles.

This bag is entered into the Eco-Chic category.

This project deserves recognition because is an easy project to make and is the perfect answer to re-using old clothing.

And what a great idea to give the second chance to the skirt that doesn't fit anymore. I have a couple of those in my wardrobe, too. I'll make one more attempt to downsize myself, and if not - well, at least I'll go creative...
