Floral skirted dress
comments (1) June 26th, 2010 in galleryI fell in love with this fabric instantly. However, finding the right project for it proved tricky because of the large scale of the print. What you see here is the product of many design revisions, but I couldn’t be happier with the final result. It’s light and comfortable and fits like a dream.
Some notes on the construction of the dress: I drafted the pattern myself using a basic princess seam bodice sloper and an a-line skirt pattern. All bodice seams are finished as french seams. The arm holes are finished using bias tape. The neckline is finished by stitching in the ditch to catch the facing on the inside. The little hook you see is to keep my bra straps from peeking out. The most difficult challenge of making this dress was actually just getting it cut out so that the floral pattern matched enough to meet my perfectionist standards. I was really pleased with how well it matched up across the center back zipper though.
