This summer decorate your outdoor space with lovely lanterns made from recycled cans. On the designsponge blog today Karen shared a great post on how to create these sparkling lights that are easy to make while staying green.

Has anyone made similar lanterns before? Do you have any other ideas for decorating for summer outdoor spaces?

rainwolfe writes: I've been saving different size cans to do this with, so this is great! Her idea about trying different screws, nails, drivers, etc to make different shaped & sized punches is brilliant! I also really love how the designs really cover the whole can. Beautiful!

leopardstripes writes: I've made these- when I was a kid, we did this as a project for Girl Scouts. Here's a tip to make the whole process easier, and with much less equipment- we filled the cans with water, and then put them in a deep-freeze! The ice will hold up, on a cooler day, for long enough to punch out your pattern, and keeps the metal walls stable- your cans will keep their round shape, and your tin-punch pattern will not distort. We used old nails and a claw hammer to punch ours out, and they can be spray-painted after, if you want a colorful, shabby-chic look for your patio.
