An enclosure for my handmade spirit drum made from a combination of faux fur lined with fused ripstop and closed-cell foam, main compartment closed with leather ties, then covered with a quilted strip made from Indian fabric and denim and lined with vintage silk, the latter attached by three velcro dots. The beater, made from driftwood, needlefelted wool padding, rabbit fur, and embelished with Guinea Hen feathers and leather strapping, is attached to the front of the tote via a piece of elastic. Two split rings and a strap salvaged from a worn out computer bag allows me to easily carry my drum wherever the rhythms are needed. All the materials use were scraps from other projects, and nothing was purchased specifically for this project. The faux fur and quilted scraps of luxurious burned velvets and silks lend a tribal feel to this bag, but it's grounded by the inclusion of demin, leather, and the driftwood beater. I love this bag, and found the experience of creating a round cover for my delicate instrument a wonderful challenge!
